    Discovering Reading

Reading is a valued and empowering activity which enables us to construct meaning and make sense of our world. A positive reading environment is significant in encouraging one to value reading and in supporting one's reading development. Readers learn best in a community of readers!

DISCOVERING READING @ Voice Works is a daily (high frequency) 30-min (short), one-on-one Guided Reading programme that lasts for 30 days. The programme provides opportunities for reading to, reading with and reading by your child.

    •  Reading to
A variety of texts will be read for enjoyment, to increase knowledge and to encourage language development by modelling good reading behaviours. Your child can also develop a feel for the way texts work.

    •  Reading with
Poems, rhymes, songs, chants and a range of other texts that the child may not be able to read individually can be shared with the teacher. These reading experiences are very supportive for an individual child. They develop positive attitudes towards reading in a secure environment where risk taking and approximations are seen as a natural part of the learning process.

    •  Reading by
Your child will read books that have been carefully selected as appropriate for their developmental level, enabling them to successfully interact with the text.

DISCOVERING READING @ Voice Works is a proven and effective Reading Programme to jumpstart your child's path to Reading For Life!

    Creative Speech & Drama

The mission of our Creative Speech and Drama classes is to instill the habit of beautiful Speech. Skills taught in this programme train your child to speak and read clearly and naturally, be expressive and eloquent, mesmerize and captivate one's audience, dramatize and bring the written word to life. Your child will learn to love and enjoy the English Language and appreciate its many nuances. He will grow in self-esteem, sensitivity and creativity. At the end of the year, the students stage a class production for their family and friends to enjoy.
